Coronary Angioplasty |
| |
|
When narrowing in a coronary artery is found, angioplasty may be the next step. After the arm or groin has been injected with local anesthesia, a catheter with a balloon at the end is inserted into the artery. The balloon is then blown up to compress the clogged area of the artery against the artery wall, and then the balloon is deflated and the catheter is removed. |

Coronary Stent |

|
These devices are placed in the artery to keep the inner wall of the artery open. A small mesh tube is left in the artery to hold the artery open. |
