Diagnostic Cardiac Catheterization

After a local anesthesia is given, a catheter is inserted into a blood vessel in either the arm or groin. The catheter is threaded up to the heart, a dye is injected and x-rays are taken of the arteries. If there is a blockage in an artery it is easily seen. The catheter is then removed and the patient should be able to go home later in the day.
